Training with JAQ
JAQ is a unique training environment in that it incorporates development for goaltenders and players. JAQ
strives to establish and develop a player/coach relationship that is centered around a disciplined focus
on fundamentals and position knowledge.
At JAQ our goal is to not only develop physical skills but to educate each player with the position
knowledge that will arm them with the necessary tools to be used in in-game scenario analysis. The staff
at JAQ is determined to ensure each player enjoys the great game of hockey and looks forward to each
event, develops a hunger for the game, practices with respect for all aspects of the game and has fun.
How are we to do this?
- Teaching the value of communication, hard work, accountability, unselfishness, preparation
- Teaching fundamental goaltending concepts: stance, footwork, angle concepts, tracking, getting square,
scenario analysis, save selection, etc.
- Teaching young athletes the values and importance of physical and mental preparation both in and out
of season with proper nutrition, exercise, rest and sleep practices
- Teach fundamental player skills such as skating, puckhandling, shooting, passing and battling
- Learn team and position concepts
- Repetitious instruction and attention to detail will be key elements of training
- Reiterating the importance of executing the “little things” consistently and valuing the benefits of
hard work
- Ensuring that for our players and their families, hockey is always a positive experience
- Proper, effective and frequent communication
- Being consistent in providing positive, constructive feedback at all times
Staff at JAQ have been fortunate to enjoy the great game of hockey and benefit from the life lessons this
great game teaches and are excited for the opportunity to pass this knowledge back to young athletes.
